Well, the vote is in and voters in Sweetwater County decided it’s time to have five county commissioners. However, it seems that people weren’t exactly flocking to the polls.
According to the Rock Springs Daily Rocket-Miner, an unofficial tally suggest that only 4,910 took part in the election, with 3893 voting for and 1017 against. My precinct, Rock Springs 4-1, was tallied at having 149 total voters.
When I voted at 11:30 p.m. that day, I asked the poll workers if they had a lot of people coming to vote. The response: not as many as usual. At that time, they had a tally of 125 voters, which is unusual because people are usually very active in my precinct. The previous elections, ones I voted in before going to work at 9 a.m. there would have been 200+ people who had already turned out around the time I came in.
I wonder if this issue is one that a majority of residents don’t really care about…
The turn out seemed higher than I expected. I voted later in the day, around 1pm, and I was voter #53. This was at the college polls.
As for the result, I am glad it passed.
